Dr. Gokhul’s path to paediatrics is built on a foundation of academic excellence and extensive clinical leadership across both urban and rural healthcare sectors in KwaZulu-Natal.

Foundations of Excellence (2006):

Graduated with her medical degree (MBChB) from the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine (UKZN). Her exceptional academic performance earned her lifetime membership in the prestigious Golden Key International Honour Society, recognizing academic achievement, leadership, and community service.

Finding Her Calling (2007–2008):

Realized her passion for treating children during her intensive two-year internship at R.K. Khan Hospital in Durban.

Community Service & Public Health (2009):

Dedicated a year to serving rural communities at the Sundumbili Community Health Centre in the Ilembe District, gaining invaluable insight into primary paediatric care.

Specialist Registrar Training (2010–2014):

After gaining experience as a paediatric medical officer at both Stanger and R.K. Khan Hospitals, she entered the rigorous Registrar programme, officially qualifying as a Specialist Paediatrician in 2014. Over four years, she trained across Durban’s premier regional-Mahatma Gandhi/R K Khan/Prince Myshiyeni hospitals), tertiary- Kind Edward Hospital, and quaternary hospitals- Inkosi Albert Luthuli hospital.

 Critical Care, Clinical Leadership & Medicolegal Expertise (2014–2016):

Refined her critical care skills in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, followed by a senior consultant post at Stanger Hospital.

During her tenure at Stanger Hospital, she carried significant clinical and administrative responsibilities:

 Departmental Leadership: Headed and managed both the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)and the newborn nursery.

 Specialized Care: Ran the dedicated Cerebral Palsy Clinic, providing comprehensive management for children with neurodevelopmental needs.

 District Expert: Served as the Lead Medicolegal Paediatric Expert on behalf of the Department of Health for the Ilembe District.

It was also during this intensive period that she successfully completed her Master’s Degree in Medicine (MMed) in 2016.

Thriving Private Practice (2017–Present):

Transitioned into private practice, establishing a comprehensive, trusted clinical hub focused on helping children thrive from birth through to early adolescence.

• Neonatal & Critical Care: Routine newborn attendance at delivery, newborn check-ups, and highly specialized
• NICU and PICU management.
• Preventative Medicine: Routine childhood vaccinations, immunizations, and comprehensive growth and developmental assessments to ensure key milestones are met.
• Acute Emergency Management: Rapid intervention and stabilization for all acute childhood medical emergencies.
• Chronic Condition Management: Ongoing, dedicated care for long-term childhood illnesses and complex chronic medical conditions.

 Paediatric Patient Safety & Quality Care

Dedicated to improving clinical systems, Dr. Gokhul co-authored a landmark study published in the South African Medical Journal (SAMJ – 2016) investigating “”iatrogenic medication errors”” in paediatric intensive care settings. Identifying Vulnerabilities and driving Clinical Improvement by highlighting these systemic challenges, Dr. Gokhul’s research serves as a vital tool for improving pediatric ICU protocols, enhancing staff training, and establishing safer prescribing habits to protect the most vulnerable young patients.

Global Collaboration on Rare Diseases

On a global scale, Dr. Gokhul collaborates with international research networks to study ultra-rare genetic disorders. She has co-authored groundbreaking research into Penttinen syndrome and Kosaki syndrome (extremely rare genetic progeroid, or premature aging, disorders).

Her collaborative work explores targeted therapies—specifically tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) like imatinib and dasatinib—designed to block the abnormal cellular signaling pathways that drive these conditions.

Through her active engagement in clinical trials and international publications, Dr. Gokhul ensures her practice remains at the absolute forefront of modern paediatric medicine.
